Most parents and other adults want to meet children's needs. Here are some ways in which you may be able to help children to avoid abuse and to grow up happily.
If a child tells you that he or she has been abused, it is important that you listen to the child and take action straightaway. The sooner you take action, the more likely it is that the abuse will stop and the child will recover from their experiences.
If you are concerned about any child whom you think may have been abused or neglected, please talk to someone about it.
Children are abused in a number of ways: physically, sexually, emotionally, and through neglect.
As part of our child-centred service the people listed in the Contacts Section can provide you with a listening ear.
They will advise what will happen next.
If you yourself are abusing a child or are in danger of doing so, please ask for help immediately. It is crucial for the abuse to stop.
Many people may feel reluctant to report a case of suspected child abuse because they fear that the child will be taken away from home. this is not the case. In fact all of the agencies listed overleaf aim to prevent children being taken away from their families. These agencies want children to enjoy life and achieve the best they can so that they can grow up as happy and contented individuals.
